Biography |
Joseph Levigard was born April 5, 1903, in Frankfurt am Main to Pauline and Martin Levigard from Laupheim, a relative of Carl Laemmle, the founder of Universal Pictures. Levigard emigrated to the US and became a Studio executive for Universal Pictures and director of a number of silent western films.
Joseph Levigard spent the main part of his screen career helming the studio's many two-reel Western series. In fact, in 1930 Levigard directed what must certainly have been the final silent Westerns ever released, the second Northwest Mounted Police series starring Ted Carson. Like most of "Uncle" Carl's many family retainers, Levigard abandoned screen work at the changeover to sound. He died young, on April 28, 1931.
